The Gettysburg article was great. I'm going there next month as a part of the History Speaks trip. Our middle school is one of the few left in Columbus that still has the pledge of allegiance every morning. That article gives a hint of how important the battle flags were to both sides.
I must admit that I no longer see the purpose of a separate Confederate Memorial Day as a paid state holiday--if they get the National Memorial Day off. If so, two is a bit much. The war is over, there are not two countries--and never were according to Lincoln, so we don't need two different Memorial Days.
