Happy Memorial Day Week End

I'm calling it a week end. Time to kick off the summer.
I hope everyone has a great Holiday Week end. Spend it with your family and friends. As we get our picnics and cook outs organized, our movie trips lined up get your flip flops and tank tops on and enjoy yourself. But always remember those who have come and gone through your lives. Take a trip to a cemetery to visit the graves of not only loved ones but also those who have served this Great Country. Go, not only to reflect on the past but to also contemplate the future. Pause some time during this week end to look back and remember the deceased, look out and love the living, look up and honor God.

I leave you with some words of General John Logan's order about the graves of soldiers; which helped create Memorial Day as we know it:

"Let no wanton foot tread rudely on such hallowed grounds. Let pleasant paths invite the coming and going of reverent visitors and found mourners. Let no vandalism of avarice or neglect, no ravages of time, testify to the present or to the coming generations that we have forgotten, as a people, the cost of free and undivided republic.

If other eyes grow dull and other hands slack, and other hearts cold in the solemn trust, ours shall keep it well as long as the light and warmth of life remain in us.

Let us, then, at the time appointed, gather around their sacred remains and garland the passionless mounds above them with choicest flowers of springtime; let us raise above them the dear old flag they saved from dishonor; let us in this solemn presence renew our pledges to aid and assist those whom they have left among us as sacred charges upon the Nation's gratitude..."
