Happy Birthday Bilbo

"My dear Bagginses and Boffins, Tooks and Brandybucks, Grubbs, Chubbs, Hornblowers, Bolgers, Bracegirdles and Proudfoots. Alas, eleventy-one years is far too short a time to live among such excellent and admirable hobbits. I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve."

The immortal words of Bilbo on his eleventy first birthday. Today is the day of his Birth, September 22. This year marks the 70th anniversary of the release of "The Hobbit" . Well done J.R.R.

Enjoy the day in the Shire and do something Hobbit like in honor of dear old Bilbo!

IF MORE OF US VALUED FOOD AND CHEER AND SONG ABOVE HORDED GOLD, IT WOULD BE A MERRIER WORLD.

JonCon Movie Alert

As movies come out from time to time it is our custom, as Adventurers, to review and share the out come of these films. Why do we do this you may ask? Because friends don't let friends see movies as bad as Dungeons & Dragons:The Movie. And as it is also our custom to not reveal the endings or serve up any spoiler info, ala The Perfect Storm, I want to discreetly talk about a couple of films. The first is the Western that is currently out, 3:10 to Yuma.

A movie that has a pretty good cast, including Christian Bale and Russell Crowe, this is a classic western. I would highly recommend it and would go with any of you to see it again. It is a remake of a flick from 1957 starring Glen Ford and Van Heflin. Beautiful scenery, great classic western story line and some good performances make it worth a trip to the theater. The costumes are outstanding and it doesn't look like it was the first time any of these guys had been on a horse. Russell Crowe's character is outstanding. I really hope that Hollywood continues to make classic Westerns such as this and Open Range which came out several years ago. I really liked this movie and I give it 4 Floyd's (out of 5).

The second is Highlander:The Source, which came out on the Sci-Fi network this week end. I love Highlander, Adventurers love Highlander, going back to the original from 1986. Who can forget "I am Connor MacLeod of the Clan MacLeod?" What other clan would he have been from? A lot of purists felt the franchise should have ended there (and this film makes their case)but it did not and several sequels sprang forth. There was also a pretty good TV series that featured Duncan MacLeod of the Clan MacLeod. Well, did you ever wonder where the Immortals came from in the first place? This movie will make you wish you had never begun to think of that question.

This latest Sci-Fi attempt to continue the story is pathetic. It brings back some of the actors from the TV series but their presence is not enough to save this dog. As far as that goes this dog deserves to be handed over to Michael Vick. Don't waste your time to watch this and just think of it as me taking one for the team. Spend two hours with your family, friends, people you don't like, harassing the homeless, torturing kittens or playing croquet just do not waste it on this movie. If I had a negative rating for films this would receive it x2!
