Taken

I went to see the new Liam Neeson movie Taken today. This is a really different type of role for Neeson. He plays a retired 'government' worker who settles in L.A. to be closer to his hot 17 year old daughter, played by Maggie Grace, who lives there with her mom and step dad.

(this is not from the movie)

When the daughter is kidnapped on a trip to Paris the former agent springs into action. It is kind of hard to describe this movie. It starts a little slow while they are setting up the story line but once it moves to Paris it is pretty much non stop. Think of Neeson's character as a mixture of Gene Hackman in Target, Matt Damon in any Bourne movie and Daniel Craig in the last Bond movie. I liked this movie. It wasn't great but it was good. 3 Floyd's worth of good. Go see it.

New GenCon Registration procedures

I thought I'd repost this in case anyone wants to sign up early

The following is from GenCon's web site:

Gen Con Announces a New Registration System

Gen Con was given an opportunity on January 5th for the development of a new registration system. This is a brand new, adaptable system that promises to be flexible and agile enough to grow with us rather than against us. Gone are the days of the system crashing, difficulty searching events and slow performance. While we will be developing the system as we go, we strongly feel the pros far outweigh the cons. You spoke, we listened, and now we all have a new registration system.

What does this mean to you? Well, it means you will need to create a new account in the new system by going to registration.gencon.com, starting next week. Also, please note that Badge Registration has been pushed to Sunday, February 15th at 12:00 pm (ET) and Hotel Registration will go live on Tuesday, February 17th at 12:00 pm (ET), due to the Monday holiday. More information on account creation and registration will be coming soon!

We thank you in advance for your patience and apologize for the short notice of this announcement. We are very much aware of what this type of development schedule means, and there will undoubtedly be some hiccups along the way. We know you will have lots of questions; we will keep you posted as developments arise.

We are very excited about this opportunity and know you will be too!

here are the new schedules:
Badge Pre-Registration begins Sunday, February 15, 2009 at 12:00 pm (ET).
Housing opens Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at 12:00 pm (ET).
Event Pre-Registration begins Sunday, April 19, 2009 at 12:00 pm (EST).
Both Badge and Event Pre-Registration will end at 11:59 pm (EST) on June 27, 2009.

Origins 2009

I went on their site also and they have made some pretty cool changes. The Fair Only pass will be available for all days in 09, not just Saturday/Sunday like in 2008. Also:

The 2009 Origins Game Fair will of course still have the signature events you keep coming back for year after year. The Play with The Creator Series, Origins Theme Tracks, Smithee and Origins Awards, Origins War College, Board Room and War Room, Teacher’s Hall Pass, and much more!

If you don’t know anyone who has been to Origins and you want to check it out, you can purchase a Fair-Only Pass. A Fair-Only Pass entitles you to explore the Exhibit Hall, the Art Show and the demonstration booths lining the main corridor. The cost for the Fair-Only Day Pass is $3 per person or $10 for a family of 4 or more. In 2008 you could only buy a Fair-Only pass on Saturday and Sunday, but in 2009 these passes will be available for every day of the show. If you see an event you want to participate in, simply upgrade to a Single Day Badge at the show.

Reds-Indians

Looks like the Battle of Ohio will once again take place twice this season. In Cincinnati in late May (22-23-24) and Cleveland in late June (26-27-28). Since most of us are either Reds or Indians fans (some of the really confused are both) maybe we should try to get together for a game. What say you men?

Pandemic

I am really looking forward to trying this one again. We played this one several times during King weekend and never could beat it. It is a very well designed game and is quite challenging. I'll bring it to the next gathering and we can try it again.

City of Heroes Double XP Weekend

Sniper 7 says you should get your butts on City of Heroes and rack up some double xp before a .50 cal reminder ruins your day. That is all.

Gran Torino

Go see this movie. Aside from The Outlaw Josey Wales this is now my favorite Clint Eastwood movie ever. Ok, I've never been a big fan of Clint, but this show actually evokes some emotion other than revenge and violence. Eastwood should have been nominated for an Academy Award. Go see it. Four Floyds. Enough said.

Lincoln Quote of the Week

"The will of God prevails. In great contests each party claims to act in accordance with the will of God. Both may be, and one must be, wrong. God cannot be for and against the same thing at the same time. In the present civil war it is quite possible that God's purpose is something different from the purpose of either party - and yet the human instrumentalities, working just as they do, are of the best adaptation to effect His purpose."

City of Heroes

I am having a blast playing, and learning, this game. I guess the biggest thing has been, aside from having a slow system, is all the side things that I keep finding out about. There is so much detail and an actual community to Paragon City that I have yet to explore and discover. I ended up somewhere last night for the first time and was killed by a tree. Good stuff. And I really enjoy it when we put to gether a large group of guys. See you in the city!

Super Bowl 09

Steelers and the Cardinals? Although Arizona has a crazy, explosive passing game I can't see them being able to move the ball on Pittsburgh. It is nice to see a Super Bowl with out New England, Dallas, or a New York team in it.

Arizona defeated Philadelphia 32-25 today behind Kurt Warner and Larry Fitzgerald. Donovan McNabb led a great comeback but in the end it wasn't enough.

Pittsburgh defeated Baltimore 23-14, putting it away with a late defensive touchdown, and will take their nasty defense to Tampa and the Super Bowl. The game had one of the scary moments when the Ravens Willis McGahee was blasted on a huge hit by Pittsburgh's Ryan Clark.

With the Cardinals making it to the big show there are only five teams who have never made it to the Super Bowl; Detroit, New Orleans, Houston, Jacksonville and yes, the Browns. The Cardinals have an interesting team history staring in Chicago, moving to St Louis and then on to Arizona.

Defiance

My wife and I, along with the Hairy One from up North, went and saw the new Daniel Craig movie; Defiance.

Let me start by saying this is based on a true story of the Bielski brothers in WWII era (Belarus)Poland. This movie was very, very well done. Hollywood seems to be stepping up the last few years and is now telling these forgotten stories of bravery and heroism. The Great Raid, Valkyrie and now Defiance are examples of this new trend. Keep up the good work Hollywood! Go see it with a fellow Adventurer soon. I give this movie 4 Floyds.

Lincoln Quote of the Week

Buckeye Recap

16 seconds stood between Ohio State and Victory. The Bucks lose 24-21. In the final minute. Really Bad defense. Their alignment on the last play was enough to make me say fire the "D" coordinator.

Things that costs them:

Bad snap causes a missed field goal. If that is made there is no need to go for two two point conversions and the Bucks would have scored 26 points. Hmmmmm

Beanie Wells starting his pro career one half early. I'm not sure why he didn't play the second half but he sure did hurt them.
*****Update***** Beanie suffered a concussion sometime in the 3rd quarter and was held out by the medical staff.

The phantom roughing the quarterback call in the 4th quarter. Horrible call.

Three first half possessions that ended in field goal attempts.

I'm not sure how I feel about this one. I'm mad because they gave this one away. The played with Texas and held their offense pretty much in check. The thing that gripes me is that the played so soft so often. When they did pressure McCoy (who is really over rated) he was bad. When they played 10 yards off the ball he looked good.

Ugh as in an ugly end to a disappointing season. Three losses, two of which they should have won.

What do you want to do?

What would you guys like to see in the upcoming year on the site? I'd like to see you guys post something from time to time. Please feel free, anything goes. If you can not post email me and I'll get you set up.

Game Day

The Fiesta Bowl. Texas - Ohio State. Tradition, hard hitting football, passion, pride.

Beanie is healthy, Pryor hopefully worked out some kinks and Boeckman should gets some passing plays. Good Luck Buckeyes!!

Adventurer Gatherings in 2009

Other than JonCon and GenCon does anyone have any thoughts on a road trip or two for this year? I know Counselor Norwalk went to an event in Pennsylvania last year so maybe something like that would be in order. Also, maybe a visit to the state up north and visit the Wallet Draining Lich once he gets settled in up there would be possible.

Maybe a trip to a ball game would be doable also.

What say you men?
