If a bear craps at a place beyond the pines does it still stink?

The answer is a resounding hell yes. This is quite possibly the worst movie I have ever seen. It was long (2 hours 20 minutes) and slow (think white guys in an Olympic 100 slow). It had a decent cast with Ryan Gossling, Bradley Cooper and Ray Liotta but is still was epically bad. Worse than Ishtar bad. the story was told in three disjointed sections and really didn't resolve any story plots.

Don't waste your time, effort, money or anything else on it. In the words of Charles Barkley it was "Turrible." I give it  4 negative Floyds.

JonCon Swag Bags

b. An ornamental festoon of flowers or fruit.
c. A carving or plaster molding of such an ornament.
2. Promotional items, especially when given for free, considered as a group.
3. Slang Stolen property; loot.

Gentlemen,

This year we will be handing out our first ever JonCon swag bags. It is time to start thinking of an item if you would like to contribute to the cause. Durwaine and Caleb have already started working on their ideas so we know we will have at least two items included. And that makes it better than Origins swag bag already!

The item can be anything, ranging from the sublime to the ridiculous, that you want to contribute. All I ask is that you have enough for everyone. Personal promotional items from your business to clothing items to cars make great gifts. I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

Gettysburg Road Trip

I'm going to Gettysburg on Thursday July 19 and will return home sometime late on Saturday July 21. All are welcome to come along. I will be tent camping at the Drummer Boy Campground in Gettysburg. They do have some cabins that rent fairly reasonably but we will need to move quickly to stay in one of those.

My goal while there is to participate in several of the free Ranger programs, do a night tour, hire a Licensed Battlefield guide and tour the new Welcome Center. What say you men?

This week is a historical unholy week for home grown nut jobs

This morning America experienced yet another sucker punch. The cowardly attack on innocent lives at the Boston Marathon comes in a week that is historically wrought with home grown problems.

April 20, 1999 Columbine High School Shootings
April 19, 1993 end of the Waco siege
April 19, 1995 Oklahoma City Bombing

Let's keep this situation in prayer. Prayer for the victims asnd their families and prayer for our country.

Ashland Civil War Show - Saturday May 4

Who is in? Check out info here

I'm going. Last year was a lot of fun. What say you men?

Adventure of Doom 2013 Chapter 1

It is a beautiful spring evening. You are sitting on the porch of the Red Latos Inn in Saltmarsh. This classic Inn and tavern is owned by the legendary Pirates of Saltmarsh and displays mementos from their adventures.

You have enjoyed a wonderful meal, fine wine and now a relaxing smoke. The town has been quiet other than the occasional straggler who tells tales of strange creatures in the surrounding area. Zombie like in description they are seen in large packs, moving faster than legend dictates and moving as a large group of eating and killing machines. Priests of all deities report that they are much harder to control and turn than normal zombies.

The soft spring breeze suddenly carries a putrid smell with it. The stench of rotting flesh is accompanied by screams of local citizens. Looking up the main street you see a hooded figure walking behind what appears to be 2 zombies who are on chains.

"I need the help of brave men such as yourselves. An evil has been creating this...he points to the creatures.. and turning them loose on the people of the out lying areas. While they are not the hardest things to eliminate they are harder than they should be. And, their numbers keep increasing. I have discovered their point of origin and would like to hire you to go eradicate them, and their creator from existence. I am willing to pay you in the form of lands, magic and gold upon completion of this minor task. I will pay you 500 GP per man, one magical item (randomly selected) per man, provisions for healing and give you a light war horse (including tack & harness) each in advance.

Upon fulfilling your obligation you will receive 200 acres each, the title of Hand of the King and a magical item of your choosing.

My name is Ragnar the Dawnbringer, of Silverton. I will return to my camp in the woods as to not offend the sensibilities of the good people of Saltmarsh any further. I will return at first light to receive your decision". Until then "In the dawn, beauty reigns, and the way is clearer."

Before he turns to leave he tosses a pouch to one of you. It contains a medallion on a leather strap for each of you in it. The medallion looks like this:

It is your initiative

Something to do at GenCon this year

from the GenCon website:

Sign-ups Now Open for the Playtest Hall
Last year saw the successful debut of the First Exposure Playtest Hall, and based upon its popularity in year one, it will return in 2013 bigger and better than before! Now, in its new location next to the Exhibit Hall, it will be even easier to check out new games, many of which have never been played by the public previously!
Managed by Double Exposure, Inc. (the company that runs DEXCON, DREAMATION, and METATOPIA), the First Exposure Playtest Hall allows designers and publishers to preview and test their newest creations before they go live! Scores of all-new role playing games, story games, board games and card games will be represented in the Playtest Hall. Players will be able to get FREE tickets to try out as many as they'd like throughout Gen Con 2013!

The First Exposure Playtest Hall will be open from 8 am to midnight on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. The hall will be open from 8 am to 2 pm on Sunday. That's right, you can playtest games before the Exhibit Hall opens each morning (while seats are available). Players will be able to choose a game to playtest at the beginning of each two-hour slot. Designers and publishers can review full policies for the First Exposure Playtest Hall here, and complete the form at the end of that document to register.

Players will be able to sign up for specific slots when event registration opens up on May 19. To register for events, you must have a valid 2013 Gen Con Indy badge.

Any questions can about the playtest program can be sent to events@gencon.com.

42 should lead to 21

42 - The biopic about Jackie Robinson opened Friday. Make no mistake; this is not a baseball movie. It is a movie about America and some of our darkest days and in particular one of our greatest days. The day Jackie was allowed to step on a field in "white" baseball was truly a landmark day for America. Baseball is a microcosm of the American way of life, both the good and bad. Now if they would only honor Roberto Clemente in the same manner for his contributions . Go see this movie. You'll cringe, laugh and tear up and there are not many movies that can make that happen. I give it four Floyds.

March Mayhemness - Championship Game

Who are you taking? I'm torn between B1G pride, Kentucky roots and a hatred of that team up north. It should be a pretty good game no matter who you are rooting for.

GenCon & Baseball - 2013

The baseball gods have smiled on us and scheduled the Indianapolis Indians (farm team of the Pittsburgh Pirates) to play the Columbus Clippers while we are in town. The Wednesday game is an afternoon game that starts at 1:35. Thursday and Friday have night games that begin at 7:05 and 7:15 PM. Tickets range from $15 - $35

If we hustle out of Cbus we can make the Wednesday game, pick up our badges and then game some. Or, we could go Thursday after wandering the Dealer room all day.

What say you men?
